I want my teeth whitened, what options do I have?

Are you conscious of the colour of your teeth and would like it whitened?

Teeth discolouration can be due to many reasons for example diet and lifestyle such as consuming red wine, turmeric, coffee as well as smoking.  This is referred to as external (meaning outside) discolouration.  Sometimes discolouration can be internal (meaning inside the tooth) and treatment will vary. Therefore, it is important to visit your dentist who can assess the source of discolouration accurately.

For most people, discolouration is external and there are two options available for teeth whitening which include in-office whitening and home whitening.

In-office whitening is the typical “celebrity whitening” that is the fastest way to whiten your teeth. It usually involves a short appointment, where the dentist or hygienist applies a whitening agent on your teeth repeatedly, resulting in an immediate result.

Home bleaching involves taking moulds of your teeth to construct clear trays that are custom-fit to your teeth. A whitening solution will be required to be purchased from reception and your dentist will instruct you to apply the solution in the tray to be worn daily at night. The duration will depend on the concentration of the solution. After a few weeks, noticeable “whiter teeth” can be expected. This option is less expensive compared to in-office whitening, but requires compliance.

Depending on your budget and preference, both these options can result in significantly “whiter” teeth, so it is important to visit your dentist who can determine a treatment that is right for you.

At Port Augusta Dental Care, we offer both in-office whitening and home whitening, so if you would like your teeth whitened or for more information please call us on (08) 8642 2557 to book an appointment for a consultation.
